Suicide Awareness Walk Brings 400+ Walkers To The Shore

Ocean City, Md. –  The 8th Annual Out of the Darkness Suicide Awareness Walk took place on Saturday, September 21. More than 400 walkers registered for the event, which raised over $43,000 to fund suicide awareness and prevention education and programs, making 2019 one of the most successful years to date for Out of the Darkness in Ocean City. The event was made possible with the help of 35 volunteers and 12 local resources including behavioral health providers.

Worcester County Health Department launches “Just Walk Worcester”

SNOW HILL, Md.- Worcester County Health Department will launch “Just Walk Worcester” on October 12. This new website will be an inclusive resource for finding places to walk and explore no matter where you are in the county. The site features maps of all local parks and trails as well as walking tips, helpful videos, and details about each area including the length of trails, if there are any fees and if the spot is pet friendly.

Lower Shore county offers free CERT training

Worcester County Emergency Services (WCES) is offering the public a free, 8-session Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training course in Newark this spring. CERT is open to teens and adults and will take place at the Fire Training Center, on Tuesdays from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. from March 20 through April 14, 2018. Cardiopulmonary Response (CPR) and Automatic External Defibrillator training will take place during the March 27 CERT session.

Maryland casinos report June revenue of $72M

BALTIMORE (AP) — Maryland's casinos are reporting gambling revenue of $72 Million for the month of June, up 8.4 percent from the same period last year.

Numbers released this week by the state Lottery and Gaming Control Agency show that the Maryland Live casino near Arundel Mills mall accounted for $56.5 million of the total, an increase of 10 percent from last June.

Rocky Gap Casino Resort in Cumberland reported the largest year-over-year increase, with gambling revenue up 50 percent compared to last June.


SNOW HILL, Md. (AP) — The Worcester County Commissioners now have bulletproof clipboards.

George Tunis, CEO of Hardwire LLC in Pocomoke City, which manufactures the clipboards, handed out the clipboards to the commissioners at a meeting on Tuesday.

The county bought 61 clipboards and 33 shields. The shields will be distributed to workers in the county's main government office building, courthouses and state's attorney's office.

The Daily Times of Salisbury reports that the county paid $12,000 for the clipboards and shields after a 50 percent discount from Hardwire.
