Virginia port union official resigns over unauthorized fund

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — The business agent for one of six dockworker union offices in the Port of Virginia has resigned after an internal audit found an "unauthorized and previously undisclosed account."

The Virginian-Pilot reports (http://bit.ly/1VjAzIb) that Thomas Little, spokesman for International Longshoremen's Association in Hampton Roads, confirmed Tuesday that business agent-financial secretary of ILA's Local 970 Robert Smith III has resigned after the audit found that "union funds were deposited and withdrawn allegedly for non-union purposes."

Martin O'Malley's band to perform in Baltimore next month

BALTIMORE (AP) — Former presidential candidate Martin O'Malley will perform with his Irish pub-rock band for the first time since he suspended his presidential campaign.

The Baltimore Sun (http://bsun.md/1QbmUBj ) reports the band, O'Malley's March, is set to perform at Creative Alliance at the Patterson in Baltimore on March 13.

The former Maryland governor sings and plays acoustic guitar and his band often plays original songs and covers of the 1980s Celtic band The Pogues.

Baltimore Symphony Orchestra CEO moving to Utah Symphony

BALTIMORE (AP) — The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra's president and CEO Paul Meecham is moving to the same position with the Utah Symphony and Utah Opera.

The orchestra's Board of Directors announced Tuesday in a news release that Meecham will step down in June.

The board says Meecham will stay through the remainder of the season and host the 2016 League of American Orchestras conference in Baltimore in June.

BSO Board Chairperson Barbara Bozzuto says the board will start a global search for a new president and CEO immediately.
