Virginia Film Festival adds more than 20 titles to lineup

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — The Virginia Film Festival has expanded the lineup for this year's event.

More than 20 new films have been added to the lineup of more than 100 titles. They include "Brooklyn," ''Youth" and "Embrace of the Serpent."

The festival will be held Nov. 5-8 at venues across Charlottesville.

Guests scheduled to appear at the festival include actor Meg Ryan, director Oliver Stone and film critic and historian Leonard Maltin.

Critic Leonard Maltin to participate in Va. film festival

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — Film critic Leonard Maltin will host screenings and discussions during this year's Virginia Film Festival.

Festival organizers say Maltin also will serve as a guest programmer for the festival's Library of Congress Series. The series celebrates films listed on the National Film Registry.

The festival will be held Nov. 5-8 in Charlottesville.

Organizers also say in a news release that Violet Crown Cinema on the Downtown Mall will be the festival's primary host venue.

The Music School of Delaware receives $750K donation

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) — The Music School of Delaware has received a $750,000 donation, the largest in the school's history.

The school announced Wednesday that the donation was from Dr. Bill Stegeman, a lifelong music lover and philanthropist. The school has branches in Wilmington and Milford.

Board chairman David McBride says the donation, the largest in the school's 91-year history, will enable the school to move to Phase II of its capital campaign. The campaign is seeking $4 million to put toward renovating a concert hall and other building upgrades.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — The Virginia Festival of the Book is accepting submissions from authors to participate in the 2016 festival.

The festival is encouraging authors to submit new books published in 2015 or early 2016 for consideration.

The festival also is accepting proposals for programs.

Guidelines for participants and programs are posted on the festival's website at VaBook.org.

The 22nd annual Virginia Festival of the Book will be held at more than 50 locations in Charlottesville and Albemarle County from March 16, 2016, to March 20, 2016.


BALTIMORE (AP) — The Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History & Culture is celebrating its 10th anniversary.

The Baltimore museum which was founded on June 25, 2005, says it will celebrate its anniversary Thursday with a free open house and cake and ice cream. There will also be performances by a choir and jazz ensemble.

The museum on Pratt Street near the city's Inner Harbor occupies over 80,000 square feet and has exhibitions, an auditorium, classrooms and meeting rooms as well as an oral history recording studio.
