Braves top Nationals 6-3, stretch lead in NL East

ATLANTA (AP) — Ramiro Pena and B.J. Upton hit home runs, Paul Maholm won his third straight decision and the Atlanta Braves beat the Washington Nationals 6-3 Sunday to stretch their lead in the NL East.

The Braves won two of three from the Nationals and lead Washington by 6.5 games — the biggest advantage for any first-place team in the majors.

The Nationals (28-29) fell below .500 for the first time since they were 13-14 on April 30. The Braves are 7-3 against Washington this season.

B.J. Upton lifts Braves past Nats, 2-1, in 10th

ATLANTA (AP) — B.J. Upton returned to the lineup with two hits, including a game-ending single in the 10th inning that lifted the Atlanta Braves to a 2-1 win over the Washington Nationals on Saturday night.

Upton, hitting only .145 at the start of the game, had been held out of two straight starts by manager Fredi Gonzalez, who hoped the rest would jumpstart the center fielder.

Orioles rally past Nationals 9-6 in homer-fest

BALTIMORE (AP) — Chris Davis went 4 for 4 with two home runs, and the Baltimore Orioles overcame three homers by Ryan Zimmerman to beat the Washington Nationals 9-6 on Wednesday night.

In a wild game before 39,129 fans, each team slugged four home runs and the Orioles rallied from a four-run deficit against one of the best pitchers in the game.
