WASHINGTON, DC – (AP) D.C. United won their fourth straight game in a 4-1 victory over David Beckham and the Los Angeles Galaxy before a season-high 35,979 at RFK Stadium.
Luciano Emilio scored twice, Marcelo Gallardo had one goal, and Jaime Moreno converted a penalty kick in Sunday's win in the heat and humidity.
Beckham and his teammates were overwhelmed in a game that matched the two teams that lead the league in both goals scored and goals allowed. Galaxy's only goal came from Edson Buddle, who netted his 10th of the season.
WASHINGTON, DC – (AP) Ronnie Belliard hit a two-run homer in the 12th inning to give the Washington Nationals a 3-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday.
The Orioles had taken a 2-1 lead in the top of the 12th on Adam Jones' single, and George Sherrill (2-3) retired the first two Nationals batters in the bottom half.
But Dmitri Young, Washington's last position player available, walked as a pinch-hitter. Then Belliard drove a 1-2 pitch for his 6th homer of the year into the left-field stands. Belliard's hit snapped an 0-for-13 slump.
LAKEWOOD, NJ – Tim Kennelly's bases loaded two out single in the last of the eighth gave Lakewood their first lead of the game and propelled the BlueClaws to a 2-1 victory on Sunday afternoon in New Jersey.
The win gives Lakewood a two-game weekend sweep of the Shorebirds, as the Birds finish their road trip with three straight losses following the four consecutive victories from Monday to Thursday.
