NEW YORK (AP) — Chris Davis hit a go-ahead grand slam in the Orioles' seven-run second inning and Baltimore rallied from five runs down to beat the New York Yankees 11-5 on Tuesday night.
Nick Markakis had a two-run homer among his three hits for the Orioles, who have won four of their last six, but finished July 13-14, their first month below .500 all season.
BALTIMORE (AP) — Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts will have season-ending surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right hip.
Roberts made the announcement Sunday, one day after beginning a rehabilitation assignment with Class A Aberdeen.
Roberts says the injury didn't improve in the fashion he would have hoped. He expects to have the operation in the next seven or 10 days.
Following a rehabilitation period of four to six months, Roberts intends to work toward returning to the Orioles in 2013.
BALTIMORE (AP) — Rookie Wei-Yin Chen struck out a career-high 12, Matt Wieters hit a three-run homer and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Oakland Athletics 6-1 Sunday to avoid a three-game sweep.
It was a rare setback for the A's, who fell to 18-4 this month and 12-3 since the All-Star break. The Athletics need to win one of their next two games to complete the best July in franchise history.
Chen (9-6) allowed one unearned run, three hits and four walks in 5 2-3 innings against a torrid Oakland team that had scored 40 runs in its previous four games.
