PRINCESS ANNE, MD- The local husband and wife artist team of Sandy Strachan and Bill Buchanan are currently displaying their 2-D art now until September 5, at the Mosely Gallery on the campus of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

PRINCESS ANNE, MD – Summertime is traditionally a time for students to break free of the classroom in search of more leisurely activities. Not so for a group of students hoping to get a leg up in the areas of math, science and technology; critical areas of study for the nation's future job force.

As part of the Math and Related Sciences (MARS) camp, the campus at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore is housing 88 academically gifted high school students now through July 12, and 88 academically gifted middle school students from July 20 through August 2.

PRINCESS ANNE, MD - Some 175 students chosen from six District of Columbia schools are scheduled to participate in the 2008 D.C. Achievers Summer Academic Enrichment Program on the campus of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore from Sunday, June 29, to Friday, July 18.

ASSATEAGUE ISLAND, MD – (AP) The University of Maryland Eastern Shore is honoring former U.S. Sen. Paul Sarbanes by naming its marine science center for him.

The Paul S. Sarbanes Coastal Ecology Center was dedicated Monday at Assateague Island.

State and local leaders attended the ceremony. UMES President Thelma Thompson thanked Sarbanes for his extended service to the nation, Maryland and the Eastern Shore.

PRINCESS ANNE, MD-Over 30 artworks by three graduating seniors in the Department of Fine Arts at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore will be on view at the Mosely Gallery in the Arts and Technology building from May 1-15. A closing reception takes place on May 15, from 4 to 6 p.m.

"The show is the culmination of years of hard work in studio classes, under the direction of fine arts faculty," said Dr. Anke Van Wagenberg, Mosely Gallery director, who also teaches art history in the Department of Fine Arts.
